The third issue of Mazebook will be released next week so I thought I’d share some unseen stuff from Issue 2.
If you have read that issue you should remember the sequence where Will enters “The Blue World” a sort of surreal place connected to his dreams where he sees the giant circular maze city. So, the version of that sequence that was published is actually the 2nd version. Originally I had the idea that this “Blue World” would be much more a traditional “fantasy” setting. After working on these fantasy pages, I decided it felt too far off track and too far from the “real world” of the rest of the story, so I pulled back on the more overt fantasy elements and redrew it in a more grounded way.
Below, never seen before, is the unlettered artwork from that original, unused “fantasy” version of the scene. Enjoy and don’t forget to pick up Mazebook #3 next week at your local comic shop.

Coming Friday, the next chapter of Fishflies.
I can’t believe you spend all that time creating these and they never get used. Must be a frustrating part of the process.
These pages are incredible! I really dig both versions of the dreamscape
