Happy Fishfly Friday (Fishfryday?), Farmhands.
Last week concluded the first chapter of my ongoing graphic novel, FISHFLIES, which was published for paid subscribers and it ended on quite a cliffhanger. I’m happy this crucial chapter was finally serialized so that I can speak more openly about Fishflies and also finally start to share more behind-the-scenes and process material with you without as much fear of spoiling the big reveal that ended Book 1.
This week we’ll take a break for the weekly serialization and instead I’ve provided paid subscribers a download of the complete 64-page “Book 1” as both a PDF and formatted for the Panels reading app.
Also a quick reminder that this is all supported by everyone’s patronage.
I will begin serializing Book 2 in a couple of weeks, and in the meantime I wanted to start sharing some process material with you all, and what better way than to reveal the cover for Book 2 and show some process pics from the creation of both covers.
This second cover for Fishflies was actually one of the very first drawings I did that inspired the whole story. Next week I’ll share some of my earliest sketchbook art, and character designs for this story. Then in two weeks we’ll get back to serializing pages with the start of Book 2 where we see what happens next for Franny and The Fishfly. This next chapter will also introduce two major new characters who will be a big part of the series moving forward.
See you next week.

Love the design of the second cover! What motivated you to change the colour pallet in the original drawing to the pallet in the final product? The mood/ tone shift between the two is super interesting.
How do I download to read? All I see is “read now”. That brings me to a loonnngggg version on my phone screen. Not enjoying substack at all so far 😒
