If you’ve been following this newsletter since its inception in 2021, you may have read some of the early chapters of my comic, FISHFLIES, that were serialized here. Fishflies is my next project as both writer and artist and it will be launching in print from Image Comics starting in July!
The series combines the slice of life, grounded small town storytelling of my past books like Essex County with some of he fun genre elements of books like Gideon Falls. Each issue of Fishflies will be giant-sized at 56-pages each. Due to the huge page count I’ll be publishing the book every other month starting in July and it will be a total of 6 issues. I won’t be collecting the entire series into a graphic novel until all six of these oversized issues are published.
For anyone who missed the early chapters serialized here, there will be a FREE 32-page preview comic published by Image for FREE COMIC BOOK DAY on May 6. So, any comic book store should have a copy for you.
Image will also be printing up some promotional Fishflies posters for comic book shops and these posters will be double sided with this backlist ad on the other side! I loved the design and thought I would share it here…
SIGNING IN TORONTO, VANCOUVER, CHICAGO AND MORE!

COMICS UPDATES!
The next book in the Bone Orchard universe with artist Andrea Sorrentino will launch in June. It’s called TENEMENT and it will be the longest series yet in The Bone Orchard. This is the book that begins to connect all the pieces we have been laying down in our previous stories. I highly recommend this one for anyone who has been curious about the Bone Orchard or who may have enjoyed Gideon Falls.
PHANTOM ROAD continues to roll. Issue #1 sold out and Issue #2 looks to be following the trend, so make sure you ask your local comic book store to order you a copy, as our print runs on this series have not been overprinted and extra copies will be scarce.
Here is a snack peek at Issue #3 by Gabriel Walta, Jordie Bellaire and myself…
GOODBYE TO LITTLE MONSTERS
While Phantom Road is designed to be a VERY long running series ( I have 50 + issues planned) Little Monsters with Dustin Nguyen was designed to be a bit shorter and stand-alone. Issue #13 will be out in May and that will be the final issue. It wraps up the story of our vampire kids exactly how we wanted to. I’m really proud of the series and wanted to thank all of you who supported us.
Dustin and I have already started work on our next collaboration for 2024, so get ready. This next one will really appeal to fans of my Animal Man and Moon Knight runs!
OTHER NEWS AND UPDATES….
My collaboration with with Matt Kindt and David Rubin, the graphic novel COSMIC DETECTIVE, which was originally available through Kickstarter, will now be published in a softcover format from Image Comics in July!
I am working on making all my older archived posts from this newsletter available to everyone. It’s going to take some time, but soon all the old posts will be accessible.
The final episode of Essex County aired in Canada this past week. The entire 5-part mini-series is now up and available to watch on CBC Gem. News on U.S. and international releases for the show hopefully coming soon.
The trailer for Sweet Tooth Season 2 dropped today. The second season will be on Netflix April 29.
What an exciting update. I can't wait for all of these new books to come out. Fishflies is going to be awesome. I look forward to seeing if there are any/many differences between what was published in Fishflies here, versus what will be included in the story that makes it to print. Will there be an update soon on the status of Black Hammer: The End?
Will you be in Chicago on Friday the 9th of June, or Tuesday June 6?
