CDoS: ANNOUNCING THE LAST DAYS OF BLACK HAMMER (PART 1)!
A 100-PAGE GRAPHIC NOVEL ON MY SUBSTACK STARTING TODAY!
It’s Comics Day on Substack and a big day for Black Hammer fans. When I first launched this Substack back in August I announced that there would be a number of new BLACK HAMMER projects available exclusively here. Well, I am excited to announce that the first of these comics begins today!
Initially I was planning a number of short Black Hammer stories by a variety of talented creators that would be published here for paying subscribers, and those projects are still very much in the works. They will include short Black Hammer “Visions” by the teams of David A. Robertson and Scott Henderson, as well as an amazing Madame Dragonfly story by cartoonist Lucy Sullivan. In addition, there will the full-length Colonel Weird comic by myself, Tate Brombal and Ray Fawkes coming in March.
As excited as I am about those stories there is one more Black Hammer project that has come together quicker than expected and will begin serialization here to all subscribers, starting RIGHT NOW and it’s a brand new full-length graphic novel detailing the last days of the original Black Hammer, Joseph Weber!
THE LAST DAYS OF BLACK HAMMER will be 110-pages, written solely by me and illustrated by Stefano Simeone!
This is the great untold story of the Black Hammer Universe and in many ways, it acts as a sort of prequel to the entire line of Black Hammer books. But it’s not just a “flashback” about Joe Weber, this story will reveal all kinds of new layers to the main BH cast like Golden Gail, Barbalien, and Abraham Slam who play big roles in the book.
I plan to serialize the book much like I have been with my other comic Fishflies. We will post approximately 4 or 5 new pages each week and then provide a digital download when each larger chapter has been posted. This download will be available as both a PDF and in the PANELS comic reading app.
I’m really excited to finally share this story. I actually wrote this book two years ago but have been waiting for the right time in my schedule to release it. This Substack, and meeting Stefano, lined up perfectly as an opportunity to try something a bit different with it. The book will be lettered by the amazing Nate Piekos and illustrated and colored by Stefano.
If you follow this Substack and are brand new to Black Hammer, fear not, this book is actually a great entry point into the whole universe (a “reading order” for the BH Universe has been included below). And if you are a long-time fan of BH this one really is the holy grail. The untold story that will shine a light on all sorts of new things for the characters you love.
WHAT SUBSTACK MEANS FOR CREATORS
Being that it is Comics Day here on Substack, I want to take some time to really highlight why this new publishing space on this platform is so important for the comics industry. The core of it being that it is a platform that fully supports creators and provides them the independence to not only financially produce great content but distribute it. As a creator, Substack has become a publishing tool that has provided me the unrestricted means and foundation to create.
This platform really encompasses the full pipeline of creating, producing, and distributing comics as if I were my own Publisher running my own line of books. Honestly, that is exactly what I am doing, and this space represents what I feel is the most viable and organic way to support and “stream comics” from independent creators.
I am forever grateful for your investment in my work on The Farm and your continued investment. If you have been on the fence about joining as a paid farmhand, now is the time to jump on.
The Last Days of Black Hammer is a story I am really excited about. And it begins below with your support… ZAFRAM!
