Thanks for your openness about your struggles. I find that people I know who are extremely artistically-minded have more than their share of mental and emotional struggles. I’m sure there are thesis papers out there exploring this phenomenon but please know you don’t struggle alone.
I’m curious on whether the seed of thought for Grod’s look in this book came from you, Nick, or a conglomeration of both minds. So looking forward to where you take this story!
I rarely buy single issues these days as I prefer to trade wait, but I bought this one and I’m so excited to read it. Also about to check out volume one of minor Arcana
Thank you so much for sharing this. Without knowing anything, I read Wally's powers manifesting as a metaphor for anxiety or racing thoughts. I also struggle with mental health and complex PTSD, so I felt for Wally as he seems desperate for some stablity. What I find beautiful about the Absolute line so far is it feels like all the creators are coming from a personal place with these new takes on these characters.
I'm happy to hear you're doing okay now and excited for future issues! Much love.
Thanks for sharing. Love Wally so interested to see your take here! I don't know if I've really got the "why" / Darkseid of it all of these books, but they've all been really fun.
So glad you are doing better, good sir...thrilled to hear it. Also thrilled to read the first issue, as I just got back from visiting my shop and it's in my bag next to me. Next time you're in the Bay Area, please come visit!
While I am not a fan of the Flash, I am a Jeff Lemire fan and I support him through his other titles and have been for several years. I am glad that you are now in a better place too, just know you have a lot of fans who not only enjoy your work but care about you as a person too.
This will be the first Flash comic I have ever bought or read. I've been a comic fan all my life (nearly 50 now). I thought what you guys have done with this book looks too awesome to pass up :)
Thank you for sharing this. As a reader who struggles with depression and PTSD-related things, I often read comics therapeutically. Not to escape but rather critically to evaluate my own thoughts, feelings, and behaviors against those of characters that appear to have similar struggles. It’s been as much treatment as medication and (lots of) therapy. All that to say, your work is appreciated and valued beyond just the craft of storytelling. Thank you!
As a 51 yr old fan of comics, working on my memoir, its been interesting analyzing which characters that I felt a deep connection to as a boy & teen, have remained, even though many of the Marvel & DC characters, who've been around so long, have really evolved a lot from those early versions. And its been interesting thinking about the characters I had not connected to in that way, but as an adult, I can relate to aspects of their mythology. And of course, there are some characters I have just never clicked with, & the Flash is one of those. I rarely buy any of the solo stuff, but these new Absolute characters are very fun, so I'm on board for this!
I don't collect any single issues because my lcs is too far away for me and I've spent a lot on comics recently but I might have to start picking this and Absolute Martian Manhunter up. Do you collaborate much with the other Absolute teams or are you planning to keep the series more self-contained with occasional crossovers?
I'm assuming the Absolute universe is planning to go on for as long as possible? Judging by the early reception, it looks like it'll last a long time. Looking forward to seeing where it goes.
Hi Jeff, hope you are well.
Your work continues to bring me such joy.
I wasn't sure where to ask this.
The Blackstar on Wally's pants. Is this a Bowie reference and a nod to the Major Tom theme through various songs of his?
Dead Barry from issue 2 has a space suit skull vibe, very like the music video for Blackstar.
Would love to hear your thoughts on that.
Cheers from Scotland.

I can’t wait to give this a read.
Mental health matters stay strong!

Thank you for sharing, Jeff. I'm very excited to read issue #1 this weekend!
First issue was AMAZING! Congrats, Jeff! Great stuff.

Izat Gleek on Wally's back?
The monkey's identity will be revealed NEXT issue ;)

We all talk weekly on conference calls and are planning ahead together
Just got the first issue of Absolute Flash and Martian Manhunter. I'm going to read them right now
