WELCOME BACK TO ROYAL CITY
New Series Coming in 2024!!
Hey Farmhands!
For the last two years I have been teasing a return to the world of my ROYAL CITY series…and now I am excited to announce that production on the new series is finally in full swing! As of typing this I have over 60 pages fully drawn.
I’m going to start using this Substack much more regularly again as a way to document the creation of this new story and share process material and updates each week.
It’s still a bit early to reveal any story details on the new Royal City, I’ll let you try and glean those yourself from what I show here each week. And I’ll be making a more official announcement about the publication dates etc. in the coming weeks.
For those who have not yet read ROYAL CITY, the first series was just released in one big paperback compendium edition from Image Comics.
And for those who like oversized hardcovers, it is also still available in a deluxe hardcover edition…
I’ll be sharing the first completed preview pages next week. But for now, here are some rough developmental sketches and preliminary drawings and paintings I did while getting ready to start the book as well as one finished page…

I was bummed when the original Royal City ended. I am very glad to find out this is coming back. I always enjoy any series that has Jeff attached to it. But the ones I like the most are the ones that Jeff writes and draws. They seem more "important" in that Jeff is poring more of himself into them. This was especially true of Royal City. Bravo for bringing that story back to us!
Cannot wait for this! Love this book and its characters. A few pages adorn my walls too! This is quintessential Lemire IMO. (Go Leafs!)
